Cougar Football is Back!

The Cougars opened their season Monday night with a strong win 42-0 against Cave Spring. After a hard year of not knowing what was next, these players came out strong due to their dedication off season.

Getting prepared was a struggle. Even though there were delays and things didn't go as planned, the Cougars feel great about their upcoming season

“I didn't think the season would be this late, but I'm very excited to play!” said Trevor Burton

“I have been practicing everyday and have been going to national kicking camps,” said Broc Simpson

In addition to the preparation they are doing on their own, they're excited about having a new coach. Coach Dixon played college football at UVA then later played in the NFL for 5 years. Dixon coached at Galax High School for 10 years and has resigned to be the coach of the Cougars.

“Coach Dixon is a great coach,” said Jacob Johnson. “I know these plays will get us far into the year and hopefully to the championship!”

“He's a great coach,” said Corvin Carter. “You can tell he loves us and I know the plays put us in the best possible position for success.”

The players' expectations for this season are high, and they are really optimistic.

“I feel great about this season,” Simpson said. “I think we have a really good chance of going to states.”

“We have worked daily for months preparing in the weight room, studying film, and practicing, and I'm blessed to be able to have a season and I expect us to go far,” said Carter.

We're looking forward to the rest of the season and can't wait for Friday Night Lights to finally take place again.
